random thoughts on the last few weeks in particular order
Friends are forever. Even though gang of four had to cancel the free show cos of the rain, debbie and I had a good time catching up over El Coyote. We ended up walking to the theatre to meet april and to see some sneak preview of Adam's Goldberg's "I like your work" it was coo, kinda confusing (for some of us anyway) well they had an afterparty where Flaming lips played, which seemed cool, but much like Coachella they waste a lot of time on stage messing around, so in about 45 minutes we saw 5-6 songs, 1 was brand new, one was a joke song with a kid's instrument, and one was a cover of bohemian rhapsody. At least they played Yohimi, but i doubt i will ever go see them again. i mean this was free but almost not worth all the waiting around. but damn it sounded good, i think they know they made a great album, and people love them, maybe their tired of the songs. Dj'ing Bar 107 was ok. i think i played a really good set, and the bartenders/owners seemed to like us and our music. guess we'll see what happens. regardless i will still go there, as i like the place. Extreme fun with an extreme girl at an extreme park. magic mountain was really fun. had some pretty good amusement park pizza. walked around, grace was scared sometimes, i wish i was easier to scare. We went in one maze, which was short but pretty fun. Finally we went on COllosus, backwards. it was reallllly cool. I like that rollercoasster anyways, but in the dark and backwards, it kinda ruled me. highly recommended if you can get over there by next week. didnt get a funnel cake cos the line was way too long. SHOWS: LCD Soundsystem and Juan Maclean were really good, danced it up a bit, but we needed a better spot for LCD, kinda crowded, good for the band but bad for us. It was crazy to see my old friend, jamming away on stage with Juan Maclean. Gang of Four dance-funk-punked rocked me. we missed the opening bands who were supposedly good, but i dont mind. both this show and coachella were great. both exciting, i was dancing more at coachella i think. legendary band, check out Entertainment, or the new one Return the Gift. they deserve all the name-checking they get. Records= i've picked up so many good records on vacation, all for under 50 bucks. ive got some great breaks, hip hop, funk, punk, 80's stuff. even a ton of 7"s, some of which I gave to Brad (of course i bought the same ones for myself) i think i almost made him cry, and without telling a Yermo joke. i want to go to the swap meet on tuesday to try one more time before vacation ends. Argentina= only a few days before we leave. i still need hiking boots, and to read more on things to do there. bob lent me his hiking backpack, which saves me. My brother informed me theres a good soccer game two days after we get there, cant wait, i missed my chance to go to one in germany, and although i 've been to a galaxy game and ucla game, its not as intense. also the day after we get there we are going to the BUE festival, where were gonna see MIA, brazillian girls, morcheeba, fischerspooner, Dizee Rascal, and cut chemist. all for like 30 bucks, shit is cheap over there. it goes till like 6, so i guess we better chug a red bull. enough im gonna try to work on my digital pictures from like 4 years ago. sittin' sydeways
damn it feels good to be a gangsta so i've been chillin in my room/house for the last 32 hours straight, except for a quick trip to the store for some ammodium AD. ( no explanation needed) although i should have been working, my stomach would have it other ways. while i normally love a day off, this week is my last week of work, so i need to clear out my class (the joys of a year round school) so tommorrow promises to be hectic, and my stomach still hurts. 7-up does help a little. i've had plenty of time to read magazines, watch movies (once upon a time in china), and a few dvd episodes of freaks and geeks. i also took some time to practice dj'ing and to clean my room. that was mostly today, as yesterday i just layed in bed clenching my stomach and then taking 2 two hour naps, to ease the pain, before i went to sleep. i'm not sure what got into me, but damn! anyway, to get out of the house (my parents told me not to visit anyone as i would contaminate them) so i made a little trip to Borders to browse magazines and such. really looking at magazines is one of my all time favorite pastimes. i know it might sound weird to some, but i'm sure some of you can relate to it. i like to see whats new in the world. yeah i know thats what tv is for, or dare i say going outside and interacting with people, but i am obsessed with magazines (five star in the house) i can just stand around and look at magazines, and have done so since highschool and mostly in college. the only thing that has changed is that i have a few $$$'s to splurge if something tickles my fancy and i can't browse it in under 10 mintues. so i picked up a new issue of MOJO that is stricly on the history of Jamaican music. (something i have read about extensively, but oh well. the pictures look nice and i'm a music obssessive.) i mean bob marley is on the cover. books i have read lately: yes yes ya'll- an oral hisory of hip-hop (pretty good book on the roots of hip hop books i am currently reading: kick me- by paul frieg (creator and writer of Freaks and geeks) can't stop, won't stop- jeff chang (excellent social commentary/sociology piece/ musical hitory on hip hop, even traces the roots back to jamaican reggae and dub. tight!!!) almost done with this one, less than 100 pages to go. yeah i usually read a few books at a time. on break i plan to read a bunch more, as i have ordered 5 books on half dot com. excellent deals there. 5 books with shipping came out to like 30 bucks or so, not bad and some were even hardcover. books from half.com= kick me- paul frieg super stud-paul frieg losers club- richard perez fraud- david rakoff- (kinda like -me talk pretty one day by david sedaris) the fuck up- a. nersesian (another MTV book, hey if perks of being a wall flower was good, and the luna Current Mood: sick | | Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 | | 9:39 pm |

hello out there
i know i havent posted in a while, and im not sure i have much to say. so its a new year... at least to me. i'm no longer a student. no longer a first year teacher. not having to worry about grad school is nice, its relaxing to come home and not have that hanging over me. my second year of teaching is starting out rough, but its improving at a much quicker rate than last year. oops, gotta go, i will add on to this later to be continued. off to dinner and a movie Current Mood: relaxedCurrent Music: kpfk | | Thursday, May 12th, 2005 | | 6:28 pm |
you go too fast, lookout you gonna crash
although i'm not sure if those are the exact lyrics to some random early 90's kroq song they do contain the word crash, which leads me to tell you all that i saw a really good movie this past sunday named CRASH. it's very powerful, interesting, and even funny. but even scarier is it is totally plausible and real. an examination of how racial perception and prejudice plays out in our lovely city of LA. the cast is great and all acted well , don cheadle, matt dillion, lawrenz tate, brandon fraser (i know its hard to imagine encino man in a serious role), and ludacris (yeah he was good)just to name a few. oh yeah that ryan phillipe guy was in there too. so i highly encourage you to go out and see this movie, i have a feeling you will walk out of the movie a different person than who you were when you sat down. at least i did. oh well back to the old monster paper. now working on page 43 i believe. i think it will end up to be about 47 pages, not too shabby. its been forever since i posted, so.....
A lot has happened since i last posted, some good, some bad, some i can't really talk about. lets's see- finsihed my 3 weeks of extra work at my school, it was easy, i only had to tutor like 3-7 kids at a time) it got lame the last week cos i got tired of waking up early on my vacation, i mean i still was like 30 mins late each day, but it was my vacation for lords sake. anyway i got paid time and a half for all those hours, so my paycheck i get friday should be insane, but I want to put most of it to my savings which is coming along just fine now, I am more than halfway to my goal already, so I can splurge a little. which brings me to my second thought............ i really want to go to the second day of coachella. if anyone is down let me know. i am seeing tickets for like 50 a piece on ebay. it would be this sunday, i could drive. we dont have to leave till like 2, so by the time we get there at 4, we would have missed some of the heat. bands we could see include New Order, bright eyes, gang of four, MIA, BLACKSTAR, nine inch nails, blood brothers, the faint, z-trip, aesop rock, arcade fire, miss kittin, roots manuva, pinback and Ben Watt. I want to go real bad, but i want to go with a good friend, once again let me know!!! Lets see, my inquiry thesis thing is almost due. Been working on that this week, its getting done, hopefully I will have it done by may 10th, so I don’t have to worry about it too much after I go back to teaching. I’ve been playing basket ball this week, and even better when I get home I do sit ups or do some other exercise. It feels good, hopefully I can lose what I have put on recently. if I had not worked those last 3 weeks I bet I’d be all Fabio and shit. Finally got a good copy of Michael jackson’s “off the wall” so I can spin don’t stop till you get enough with out it skipping. Should work well with my disco to disco punk set. Thanks to the Rodium swap meet for that find. OOOH I found a ghettoblaster with a record player that slides out there on the same day. It is the same exact one mike has. It was all dirty and I didn’t know if it worked, but it was only a quarter, so it was worth the risk, and guess what it works great (cept for the tape player, but who messes with tapes in this day and age) I would say my score of the year, but I did get those out of print john woo movies, that will someday make me a pretty penny, that is when I put them on ebay. Needless to say I will be going to the swapmeet Thursday morning, if it doesn’t’ rain that is. I think I am spinning at an art show next week that debbie’s friend carlos is throwing in The Long Beach. It’s thrusday, yeah on cinco de mayo Well I guess that is it for now. holla back yung'uns! it's been a awhile
so after my last failed attempt to post got lost, here goes again. well times are hectic. in the last few weeks i had report cards and parent confernces. i also had a lot of testing before that, but my kids did really well, which kinda validated what i've been doing and it feels good. i also basically told off my pricipal, and let him know what i think was done wrong to this point in time, and i told him if it happen to me again, i'm out. kidna weird to tell him off, but it had been building up and i just had to get stuff off my chest, and let him know i better not get a crazy class in july. i'm not aksing for a class of angels, but just more even distribution of behavior problems and some support. let's see, dj'ing in OC was coo, the homies came and danced. too bad i had to go on when the crowd was dying. but i still rocked it and the people who were there were definitely dancing. i got my tax refunds back, and i'm living fatttt!!! i'm trying to save up though, so i think i will open a saving account and start with a good chunk of change. Why am i saving??? well to move, but i'm not so sure when anymore, as i think i want to save up a ton of money. my old plan was to move in june and get my own apt. but the more i been thinking about my life now and my future plans, the more i dont want to throw my money away to renting. i want to amasss alot of money, more than $10,000, maybe even $15,000. it's possible, because as of right now, i have a grip already, i mean i'm not paying rent so i should have a ton, but i'm not as dedicated to saving money as i should be. but at least i've paid off most of my credit card debt, which will help my credit report. i think i should reach my goal by the end of the year. so in case your still reading this i'm saving this much money, cos i think i want to buy a house instead of rent. yup, my dad (a part time real estate agent) thinks i could get a repossessed house, (not in an ideal area) but i dont mind. it's an investment that will pay for itself (the tax break is the bomb, and the rent will not go to some landlord) these houses are reasonably priced and some programs give teachers priority. he's always been against renting, and thinks that buying is the way to go. well more on that later, if your interested ask me. (especially cos i will have an extra room that i will need to rent) yes it will probably be in the hood, but it is a first home, and the money i make from it, cos the value will increase will help pay for my futre second home. crazy huh? i know your thinking, who is writing this, and what did they do with gary? other than that i got bunch of used cd's over at second spin, but almost even better i picked up the dvd set of Freaks and Geeks!!! if you dont know what this show is and never watched it, its' a great short-lived show from like 2000, or 2001, about a group of "freaks and geeks" living in the midwest int he late 70's. really good, really funny, cult classic. i can't wait to watch em all, which im sure i will do twice over while on my vacation. yeah i have another 6 week vacation starting march 26th. yeah lets hang out homies!!! just gonna finish my thesis draft by the 17th.!! ok om out Current Mood: pleasedCurrent Music: the slits, then small brown bike | | Tuesday, January 11th, 2005 | | 10:08 pm |

gettin' schooled
i have become increasingly impatient with the tedious work i have to do for UCLA. mostimes i'm tired of going to school, tired of academia. i just want to work, well really i just want to chill and hang out, but that don't pay the bills. i'm only a mere 8 months away from getting a masters. doesn't seem too far off, considering how fast the last few months and years have past. it's just to earn that masters i have to write a thesis. this actually requires reading, something i only do for leisure usually. i am tired of reading scholarly articles, and writing summarries and proposals. but i can't quit now. but i digress. anyway the horsetrack was extremely enjoyable. we kinda won money, but it was hard to tell how much since i paid admission for two, and bought a lot of food and beer for me and some of my closest friends. we, along with the homie Clint, picked some good horses, and the man T. Bill hooked it up. Oh yeah Ozomatli for a few hours didnt hurt the vibe either. I got a letter in the mail saying i have a pupil free day on Friday. yup, my 6 weeks or so of rest and relaxation is almost coming to an end. I guess i have to set up my class on Friday. boy, i can't wait. (hmm sarcasm doesn't really work on computers) yeah back to the grind. i didnt really have any brilliant ideas on how to shape up my class. guess we'll see how it goes. at least it's only about a month to x-mas break. damn can't beat my work schedule though. so who's down for tribe called quest reunion? it's this saturday. tickets are only $34. show is from 1-11pm supposedly. i'm going by myself if i have to, put i hope some of the homies will go with. i should be going to fat beats to buy tickets either wednesday or thursday aight holla back. movie pass rules!
since i do have an abundance of free time, i joined Blockbuster's Movie Pass club. similar to netflix, but without the great selection.you pay one 15 buck fee, and get unlimited rentals for a month. i did blockbuster over netflix cos i like the feel of going a videostore, plus im on vacation and sometimes you just need an excuse to get out the house at random times. you get 2 movies at a time which isnt bad. so im trying to milk this thing, since i have the time. i've been a member for like a 2 weeks or so and i've rented 8 movies. i think i'll keep a list here for all to see. 1. chris rock- never been scared= funny as hell 2. swimming pool= ok, kinda slow, indie drama, muder mystery kind of thing, lots of french girl boob shots 3. drunken master-old great jackie chan 4. walking tall= for my dad, i swear, although i have a free shirt i didn't watch it 5. elephant= ok, but kinda weird, forgot it was about what it was about. 6. cofee and cigarettes= good, but i kept fallin asleep 7. bad santa= funny, but not nearly as funny as i thought it would be 8. the Killer= jet li movie, pretty good, wu tang reference movies i want to rent spellbound crime of father pedro zaotachi blind swordsmen reno 911 curb your enthusiasm supersize me a ton of kung fu and hong kong action movies rude bwoy 28 days later ringu woody allen movies bus 174 the cooler you got served any suggestions? | | 10:46 pm |

well since i didnt have a proper summer vacation, i am calling my current time off from work/madness a summer vacation. i had training last week for a few days, and even substituted a day for a friend, this week has been more of a vacation type feel. although im not sure where my life is heading right now, i do realize that i am in transition. for obvious and unobvious reasons i have entered this transition time. freedom has come my way, and im not sure what to do with it. i feel like i should so some serious thinking about certain things in my life, but i cant really bring myself to do that. i have always been better at solving other people's promblems (opp if you will) than at dealing with my own. seems like i can usually give out good advice (or at least i think its good), but can't really even offer advice to myself. but i digress. so at times i feel happy, other times more blah, not really sad or lonely, just whatever. i've been filling my time with shopping, eating, swap-meeting, hanging out, drinkin a lot with new and old hommies, record buying, reading, and mostly watching movies. think i;ll break this into 2 entries Current Mood: blah |
